When you can’t rely on speed, stamina or teamwork, hunting in the open
means going under the radar. A leopard can’t sprint like a cheetah or run for
hours like a wild dog, and it is large, even though beautifully camouflaged in the
undergrowth. Cover is therefore crucial, which can mean the cover of dusk or
the dark of night. Equally important is getting to know your territory. So a young
leopard must find a range and get to know its every twist, turn and tussock. And
